Course Overview

This qualification provides the skills and knowledge for an individual to be competent in a variety of information
technology support roles. The qualification has a strong Information Communication Technology (ICT) base of 12 common core units with the potential for inclusion of a range of broader support, help desk and database units to suit particular needs.

Help Desk Stream

A person selecting this stream will acquire skills and knowledge to undertake technical, client or product
support and help desk activities that require a level of ICT technical expertise. This course develops skills in defining, diagnosing and rectifying users’ needs and problems related to the use of hardware and software, and with selection of network oriented electives could support a networked environment. It is the logical pathway from the ICA30105 Certificate III in IT Support stream.

Brisbane, Gold Coast, Cairns or Townsville and other regional areas throughout Queensland.

Course Duration

This course is structured through competency based training and assessment. Course duration is based on individual training requirements. 24 months for a full-time traineeship is an indication.

Entry Requirements

A range of pre-requisite units that contain the basic fundamentals of ICT knowledge and skills are required for
entry into this course.

Articulation

Units of competency from Certificate level IV may provide articulation into higher level qualifications. Such articulation is subject to individual evaluation. The Certificate IV in Information Technology (Support) Help Desk provides logical entry into the Diploma of Information Technology (Systems Administration); or a pathway into Project Management or General.

This course may be delivered through a combination of online, class, workplace, self-paced and distance learning.

Units

To attain the ICA40205 Certificate IV in Information Technology (Support) Help Desk 22 units must be achieved: Twelve (12) common core units; six (6) specialist core stream units; and four (4) elective units. Electives may be selected from AQF level III, IV and V. A maximum of 2 elective units may be chosen from AQF level III.
