About this course
This course teaches the skills needed to effectively create, update, style and manage text and images for content management systems (CMS).
Content can make or break a site, especially in today’s web-focussed business environment. People not only want content but they want high quality, specific and up-to-date content – and they want it presented to them far more efficiently than in the past. The days of simple webpages are long gone. Users are far more web-savvy and demand more from the content they view.
This course is designed to teach you how to write, mark-up and style the words and pictures that form the content of your website or intranet and to keep it current and effective.
What you will learn
By the end of this course you will understand the fundamentals of HTML and CSS and know how to add effective text and images to a content managed site using generic open-source and commercial CMS's.
We start by introducing the concept of content management and the phases that content goes through before appearing on your site. Integration and data entry into a CMS is then tackled, with a focus on producing clear and concise copy.
Manipulation and styling of text is then addressed with an introduction to HTML, followed by a primer on the power and flexibility of CSS in content management. Creation of supporting graphics is then discussed with a module on basic image manipulation, which also gives advice on preparing graphics for the web.
Care is taken to provide an understanding of how links work and how pathnames are generated, both internally and externally. The course finishes with a focus on selected case studies for content management system to illustrate the options that are available.
If your business application suffers from stale or inadequate content, then this course teaches the skills needed to create, update, style and manage a wide range of content sources, so that your application content now becomes a powerful business asset rather than a liability.
