Qualification Description
This qualification is part of the Printing and Graphic Arts Training Package, Graphics stream, and provides training for employment as an assistant desktop publishing operator or printing hand. Desktop publishers produce professionally designed and presented documents,according to specified design and presentation requirements using desktop publishing software.
This traineeship in desktop publishing equips trainees with the necessary skills to perform basic functions such as design and creation of brochures, newsletters, fliers and other marketing materials. It will enable trainees to produce print ready materials using electronic media.
Tasks may include:
- Scanning of images for reproduction
- Use of computers
- Output of images to film and paper and electronically combining and assembling data
The work will be mostly hands-on with some project based learning and flexibility in choice of elective subjects.

Location
Brisbane, Gold Coast or Townsville and other regional areas throughout Queensland.
Delivery Method
This course may be delivered through a combination of online, class, workplace, self-paced and distance learning.
To attain the ICP20205 Certificate II in Printing and Graphic Arts (Desktop Publishing) 14 units must be achieved.
Students must complete all 8 core units plus 6 elective units.
Course Duration
This course is structured through competency based training and assessment. Course duration is based on individual training requirements. 12 months for a full-time traineeship is an indication

Certificate Requirements

Units of competency from certificate level II may provide articulation into higher level qualifications. Such articulation is subject to individual evaluation. The Certificate II in Printing and Graphic Arts (Desktop Publishing) qualification provides pathways into higher level qualifications in areas of multimedia, graphic pre-press and graphic design production.
